Before you go

Free, unlike the Grossglockner, and open all year as it serves the ski villages. Summer weekends bring a lot of bikes; go early. Keep going west through Leogang for the Griessenpass into Tyrol.

Which way round

Either way. East from Saalfelden saves the tightest bends, down from the Dientner Sattel to Mühlbach, for last.

When it’s open

Normally open all year, though snow can close it for a day or two.
